Smt. Kantaben Shah Research Centre for Multi-disciplinary Studies (KSRC)

INTRODUCTION TO THE INSTITUTION:

Maniben Nanavati Women’s College , established in 1972, is affiliated to SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai and is one of the pioneers in the field of imparting higher education to women. The College offers a wide range of programmes and courses at undergraduate and post graduate levels. Along with academics, the college offers a conducive environment and resources for imparting value education, skill development programmes, research culture. Internship and placement opportunities to students to prepare them for being intelligent, efficient , productive and socially responsible global citizens of tomorrow.

HISTORY AND BACKGROUND:

In 2002 , the College started its in-house academic publication – Anveshan- to encourage teaching faculty to publish research papers. In our endeavour to reach out to more teachers and encourage serious research, our college took a big step forward that of officially registering Anveshan as Research Horizons at New Delhi, under the Reg no. MAHMUL0Z135/13/2005TC dated 7th Nov. 2005. Eventually Research Horizons was upgraded as an International Research Journal with ISSN and currently it stands enlisted with the EBSCO, USA.

In 2009, the College established Research Cell to encourage the teaching faculty members to undertake research projects in their own areas of specialization as well as in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies. The College started an In-house as well as Intercollegiate Research Paper Competition which waeventually named as Anveshan Research Paper Competition. The College has won accolades at AVISHKAR State Level Research competition for three consecutive years and reached up to National Level.

Major and Minor research projects funded by UGC and other bodies had been one of the striking features of the Research Cell. Encouraging teachers to undertake Ph.D and M.Phil. studies had been one of the main objectives of the Cell.

The students of Post graduate Departments of Psychology and Commerce work on dissertation projects in Semester IV which carries a weightage of 4 credits as a partial obligation to their degree programme. The College has a well established Ethic Committee that reviews each research proposal for dissertations as well as others.

With a view to expand and widen the scope of activities of the Research Cell, the IQAC recommended the establishment of a well established research centre that would support high impact research projects that are socially relevant, locally need based, nationally important and of global significance.
