Commerce Stream –1972
Objectives
- Teach students various approaches to analyse different types of texts (literary and cultural) of various genres
- Teach students how to dissect and describe a literary and cultural text along with an in-depth assessment of it
- Educate students about the different grammatical structures
- Train students to improve writing skills in various formats
- Teach students how to explore and research about a topic by parsing and studying multiple sources of information
- Help students improve fluently in oral and written communication

Research(Students)
Students of the Dept. have commenced a research based survey of various Gujarati websites so as to gather crucial information about these websites, for instance, to check for any outdated content on these websites, to keep track of their updates, so on and so forth
Skill Development
Kruti Course: To keep students up to date with the latest technology, students were taught how to use PageMaker, Corel and Akruti software
Bhasha Kaushal Course: To help students improve their ability to communicate and their linguistic competence, a linguistics professor’s lecture series was organized by the Dept.
Internship
Dept. has been procuring internships for students at newspaper offices with an aim to provide students with hands-on experience and real world exposure. Students have also interned at Shri Mumbai Jain Yuvak Sangh.
Names of organizations which have offered Placement
Department has been providing various avenues to students to choose the right career path for them. This will help them secure jobs in the fields of Teaching, Journalism, HR, Compering, Gujarati Typing & Entrepreneurship. Career counselling is done regularly. Students also attend lectures organized by the Placement Cell. ICICI Academy had organized a program in the college (under their CSR) for guiding students and helping them in deciding their career choices.
Extension Work
‘Shiksha Sahkar’ Project: Dept. had signed a MOU with Sheth Chimanlal Nathuram High School, Santacruz (E) for three years (2017-2020). In the academic year 19-20, the project was titled ‘Shiksha Sahkar’. Under the MOU, Students of the Dept. teach Gujarati grammar, Maths & English to school students of 5th to 10th std. Dept. provides maximum resources/teaching material for their academic development. Dept. has organized a Drawing competition, Essay Writing competition, Slogan Writing competition for school students. These competitions were organized by the students of the Dept., which made them aware of their social responsibilities towards community. Dept. had also organized a 11 days’ workshop *Grishm Kridangan’ for school students.
Alumni Engagement
Dubbing & performance of Drama: Three alumni of the Dept. had dubbed a Gujarati drama
‘Aapna Shabdoni Mata, Aapni Gujarati Bhasha’ at G- Corp. Media Studio, The drama was written by Shri. Rashmin Joshi. They also performed a drama, ‘Aapna Shabdo ni mata, Aapni Gujarati Bhasha’ at the prize distribution function organized by Mumbai Gujarati Sangathan at T.P. Bhatia College. This drama was uploaded on YouTube.
